About

Change Course is a youth-led nonprofit based in so-called Canada. We support grassroots organizing on campuses and in communities, targeting fossil fuel funding banks, and advocating for climate justice and Indigenous Sovereignty. Together we are demanding an end to all financial support for the fossil fuel industry.

Our staff is made up of a small, dedicated team of young organizers who work diligently to support a wider network of student and community organizers at the grassroots level.

Change Course is also collaborating with the wider national banks network of grassroots, environmental and Indigenous groups including Decolonial Solidarity, Indigenous Climate Action, the Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs and Gidim’ten Checkpoint, the Union of British Columbia Indian Chiefs, LeadNow, Stand.Earth, and Greenpeace Canada.

Change Course was previously known as Banking on a Better Future. Banking on a Better Future was formed by a group of divestment organizers, who asked what comes after institutional divestment on college and university campuses. Our work is deeply rooted in the legacy of generations of student organizers who fought hard for their schools to divest from fossil fuels. We are grateful for the work of the students who came before us, and acknowledge that much of our successes would not be possible without the foundation built by previous generations of divestment organizers. We aim to continue the legacy of divestment organizing on campuses, building on campus community, training and investing in young organizers who go on to use these skills throughout their lives in a variety of justice-seeking work.

The organization underwent a rebrand and name change in August 2023,
